Sydney FC sack football director

The season of upheaval has continued at Sydney FC, with football director Gary Cole sacked after just under a year in the job.

Announced via a press release on Monday, the Sky Blues revealed Cole had departed after the role had become made redundant, effective immediately.

Having held the same position at Melbourne Victory during the 2006-07 and 2008-09 championship seasons, Cole joined Sydney FC in December 2011 in a bid to increase stability at the club after constant coaching and boardroom changes.

But the 56-year-old has become yet another casualty at the Sky Blues, just 22 days after the resignation of rookie coach Ian Crook.

Sydney FC has decided to make some structural changes to the football department and the position of Football Director has b…

Advocaat questions his PSV future

PSV Eindhoven coach Dick Advocaat says he is unsure whether he will still be in charge of the club at the end of the season.

The former Zenit St Petersburg boss has guided PSV to the top of the Eredivisie table, but is refusing to rule out a move back to Britain where he previously enjoyed success with Rangers if the right opportunity came along.

I would work there again. It is not about money, but if I can be myself, he told Voetbal International.

The 65-year-old also admitted the club would be on the lookout for new signings in the January transfer window, but only if a possible purchase made financial sense to technical director Marcel Brands and CEO Justin Sanders.

We ll look at things and Marcel and Sanders will see what is financially feasible, h…

Torosidis agrees Roma switch

Roma have reached an agreement with Olympiakos over the purchase of defender Vasilis Torosidis, the Italian club have announced.

The Giallorossi revealed via their Twitter account that they had agreed a transfer fee with Olympiakos.

All that’s left now is for the player to pass his medical and agree on the personal terms with the Serie A side.

Torosidis, 27, arrives at Stadio Olimpico to increase competition at the right-back position, with his versatility an added bonus for the Giallorossi.

The Greece international can cover a number of positions across defence and midfield, with this quality making him an indispensable member of the national team.

Torosidis has spent last seven seasons at Olympiakos, scoring 12 goals in 124 league appearances…

Arsenal v Manchester City: Aguero and Sanchez could feature in Emirates clash

Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City will run the rule over star forwards before their Monday meeting at Emirates Stadium.

City expect to welcome back Sergio Aguero – the Argentina star having returned to training after a heel problem marked the latest setback of an injury plagued campaign.

Arsenal s Alexis Sanchez suffered a hamstring injury during last month s 1-1 draw at Norwich City and remains a more outside bet, although he has resumed running work on the training field.

Arsene Wenger s hosts are a point better off than City, with both teams behind surprise leaders Leicester City.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini suggested last week that fewer than 80 point could be enough to claim the Premier League crown in a season that has prove…

FIFA reform will stop there being another Blatter, says Dyke

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke thinks the corruption scandal engulfing FIFA means there will never be another all-powerful president like Sepp Blatter.

Blatter is one of several officials suspended by world football s governing body, which is subject to an FBI investigation.

The Swiss was handed a provisional 90-day ban pending an investigation into an alleged disloyal payment made by FIFA to Michel Platini, which he authorised in 2011, and has since been suspended for eight years.

His replacement is set to be elected in February, but Dyke does not think they will be granted as much control as Blatter was, with reform taking precedence.

I am confident it [reform] can happen, am I confident it will? It will certainly happen, but whether we g…

Yotun and Orlando dreaming big in pursuit of MLS play-offs

Reaching the MLS play-offs for the first time is the goal for Yoshimar Yotun and Orlando City, though the Peru international is also dreaming of the final.

Since their introduction to MLS in 2015, Orlando have provided plenty of star quality and colour, however play-off football has been missing in Florida.

Ballon d Or winner Kaka, former Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista and ex-AC Milan midfielder Antonio Nocerino all spent time at Orlando, though none were able to deliver post-season berths following the club s 18th-place finish in 2017.

However, with the likes of Yotun, Dom Dwyer and Sacha Kljestan leading the way under head coach Jason Kreis, Orlando find themselves firmly entrenched in the play-off picture – the Lions fourth in the Eastern Conference and …

Bitesize Prediction: Doncaster vs Everton – 30/08/23

Market: Everton win

Odds: 2/5 @

Desperately seeking a much-needed EFL Cup boost on Wednesday night, Everton will make the trip to the Eco-Power Stadium when they meet Doncaster.

Starting with the hosts, at the heart of a League Two relegation scrap last season and just about clinging to their fourth-tier status, Grant McCann’s men were hoping for some stability this time around. While the former Peterborough boss might have seen his side spring a major EFL Cup upset away at Championship outfit Hull on August 8th thanks to a 2-1 victory, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for the Rovers. Last seen over the weekend getting hit with a 2-1 defeat away at MK Dons, the Yorkshire-based outfit are yet to claim a single victory from any of their opening…

New Barcelona boss Xavi dealt blow as Fati pulls up with apparent hamstring injury

Xavi s Barcelona tenure has not yet officially started, but the Blaugrana s new coach may have to cope with a lengthy absence for one of the club s star players after Ansu Fati suffered an apparent hamstring injury.

Barca confirmed on Saturday that legendary midfielder Xavi had returned to take over as Ronald Koeman s replacement.

Xavi, whose contract with Qatar Stars League team Al Sadd was terminated on Friday, will be officially presented on Monday and his first game in charge will be a derby against Espanyol.

However, he seems set to be without youngster Fati, who was forced off just before half-time against Celta Vigo on Saturday, having pulled up clutching his left thigh.

Fati had been enjoying a brilliant game, putting Barca ahead early on with a f…
