Dean Henderson would be a good signing for Chelsea

According to , Chelsea are eying a summer move for highly-rated goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has spent this season on-loan at Sheffield United from Manchester United. The 22-year-old has been that impressive in his debut Premier League campaign that some are even talking about him replacing current United number one David de Gea next season. The Spaniard’s form has been inconsistent for the Red Devils, although it has improved in recent weeks.

Would be open an exit he’s not United’s number one

According to reports, Henderson is prepared to leave United once again this summer. The youngster is also prepared to have a third loan spell with the Blades. He has made his intentions clear about being the future Manchester United number one. How long he will wait around for the opportunity is unclear.

If Chelsea clinched a Champions League spot, as expected for next season and make a move to sign the youngster on a permanent basis then it may be a hard decision for Henderson to make. It seems unlikely that United would consider a permanent sale of such a talented young player, if they did, he would no doubt command a big fee, with the youngster reported to be valued by United in the £25million bracket.

Doubts over Kepa

In August 2018, Chelsea paid Athletic Bilbao a fee around £71.6million to sign highly-rated youngster Kepa Arrizabalaga. The fee was a world-record fee for a goalkeeper. The 25-year-old was considered one of the rising goalkeeping stars of the game. Unfortunately, Kepa has struggled to convince that he is good enough to play for a team with title and Champions League aspirations.

Kepa has made several key errors and a lack of confidence can breed panic in the defenders in front of him. The Spaniard enjoyed a quiet afternoon, as Chelsea hammered Everton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. He did flap at one cross, but it did not prove to be a crucial error.

His form has been so unconvincing this season that he lost his starting place to veteran Argentinian goalkeeper Willy Caballero earlier in the campaign. Kepa has now kept clean sheets in his last two appearances for the Blues.

Reportedly, Lampard is considering Henderson and Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope as potential replacements for Kepa. One sticking point to replacing Kepa is that few clubs would be interested in signing the ‘keeper and they would certainly not get anywhere close to the fee they paid for the goalkeeper.

Dean Henderson a top prospect

Wherever Henderson is plying his trade next season, there is very little doubt that he will continue to impress and develop as a goalkeeper. In terms of goalkeepers he is very young, yet is showing tremendous confidence and maturity.

His performances so far this season are expected to earn him a call-up to the next England squad. In fact, . A place in England squad would be just reward for a superb debut campaign in the English top-flight.

It seems unlikely that Chelsea would be able to prise Dean Henderson away from Manchester United, especially for a fee of around £25million. However, if they did, then it could prove to be an excellent piece of business.

Could Dean Henderson really be heading to Chelsea this summer
