At Euro 2012, No Place For English Optimism Or Swedish Sobriety

KIEV, Ukraine—The English did not come to Kiev in droves. According to a few of them who milled about before the match with Sweden, their countrymen stayed away for two reasons: 1) The fear of racism and violence, fueled by the BBC's sensationalist Stadiums of Hate documentary, and 2) an unflinching belief that this English team is terrible, one of the worst ones in years. Expectations are low, the potential danger meter high, and the fair-weather fans (the vast majority of England) stayed home, all the better to be surrounded by like-minded grousers. The English supporters' march to the stadium was just sad: 100 or so fans, at least as many police officers, and a woman wearing a Ukrainian flag bringing up the rear. A low point for hooliganism. (That said, the English fans …

ALCS Game One Live Blog: Red Sox Vs. Rays

It's Friday night. What better time than to drink away your stock market losses and vaguely remember which AL East team dominated the first game of a curiously exciting ALCS. The pitchers are Daisuke "Dice-K" Matsuzaka for Bawston and James "Scot" Shields for St. Tampasburg. The talkers are TBS's Chip Caray, Ron Darling and Buck Martinez. The jump, if you choose to accept it, will self-destruct in 10 seconds. * * *Bottom 9th 2 012:05 — New Fanhouse Dugout screenname, and approved by 4chan: DionerFire. Navarro strikes out on the ball in the dirt, meaning Boston demoralizes the plucky Rays in Game 1. All done. Boston remains undefeated in Deadspin livebloggery. Game 2 is tomorrow, but folks, you're on your own on that one. We'll try this agai…

The Big 12 Belongs to Oklahoma, But the Race For the Last CFP Spot is Still Wide Open

data-mm-id=”_9zvns5fm5″>It was an ugly game, but Oklahoma managed to pull out an OT win over Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game at AT&T Stadium on Saturday. The defense was solid for the first three quarters and the offense did just enough when it mattered most to overcome a Bears squad that was down to its third-string QB by the end. But even with the win, Oklahoma shouldn't be considered a shoe-in for the last spot of the College Football Playoff– not by any means. As a one-loss team with a conference title, the Sooners should be first in line for that final spot. But they looked very underwhelming all day against Baylor. Jalen Hurts threw a bad pick and couldn't really get much going, even if his final statline (17-24, 287 yards, one TD) was decent. The defense ha…

Browns Owner Dee Haslam Owes Everyone an Apology for Wearing a Myles Garrett Hat

data-mm-id=”_yg3yqpkwy”>Before the likely poor quality football game between Cleveland and Miami began, Browns' co-owner Dee Haslam was wearing a hat in support of suspended player, Myles Garrett. Wearing the hat with Garrett's 95 number on it is a story alone, but the bigger story is how egregious this decision was. #Browns owner Dee Haslam shows her support for Myles Garrett by wearing a '95' hat on the field before the #Dolphins game https://t.co/iAc7ciBkrU— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) November 24, 2019My stance, and the common one, is not that Garrett should never play in the NFL again (though, there is reason to feel that way). However, there is absolutely no reason to publicly support Garrett right now. Garrett's actions in Week 11, when he swung a …

Mark Teixeira Calls Mike Fiers a Hero and Says Clean Players Want Cheaters Exposed

data-mm-id=”_k4bp1s2b7″>Mark Teixeira was on Get Up Monday morning to discuss the Astros cheating scandal and the backlash Mike Fiers is facing from some people, including fans and former players. Specifically, David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez, two former members of the Boston Red Sox."This isn't Goodfellas. This is the real world."@teixeiramark25 is not a fan of players calling Mike Fiers a "snitch." pic.twitter.com/RDND3zyK3g— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) February 24, 2020You have to wonder how much Teixeira, who played more than half his career in New York, reveled the opportunity to take some shots at the Red Sox. But stripped of that context, he still makes some great points. Fiers was not in position to stop the Astros cheating and anyone who is clean wants the ch…

Kristin Cavallari Reportedly Felt Jay Cutler Was 'Lazy' and 'Unmotivated'

data-mm-id=”_qj0s30hj4″>Jay Cutler and Kristen Cavallari are getting a divorce. Previously, the craziest part of the Cutler – Cavallari breakup was the fact that the couple was stuck in the Bahamas for weeks when the world stopped turning. Whatever happened there, things quickly fell apart when they returned to the mainland. Within weeks Cavallari announced their breakup and accused Cutler of inappropriate marital conduct. Now she's back with some bombshell accusations on Page Six of the New York Post:””After his broadcasting career faltered, the ever-ambitious Cavallari, who announced in late April that the pair were splitting, found him “unmotivated” and even “lazy” — while he found that he had a penchant for hanging out with their three kids and menagerie of animals o…

Roger Goodell Admits NFL Was Wrong, Encourages Players to Peacefully Protest

data-mm-id=”_4we61xzfx”>NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released an 81-second video via the league's Twitter account on Friday and it was stunning. In the video, Goodell admits the NFL was wrong for not listening to league's players about the systematic oppression of black people in this country. He also encouraged "all to speak out and peacefully protest" before stating "black lives matter."The video is below:We, the NFL, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of Black People. We, the NFL, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest. Brock Lesnar Needs a Job

data-mm-id=”_ekja3jdd7″>Brock Lesnar is a free agent. His contract with the WWE has ended and he is free to do whatever he wants and he should do everything. 43-years-old and still a monster, he needs to be in the ring, the cage and isn't it about time he started making movies?Lesnar's free agency isn't actually that interesting. WWE seems like the only company that can afford him and it sounds like if either he or the company needs the other to do something, it will happen. So don't get too excited about the possibility of Lesnar in the AEW while there's a pandemic tightening the rest of the world's purse strings. AEW probably doesn't have deep enough pockets at this point in the promotion's infancy to afford him anyway. The UFC could throw a ton…
